چکیده
The Camouflage Project is a national german research initiative led by the Deutsche Telekom. It aims at the provision of a TINA conform distributed processing environment based on existing legacy telecommunication systems. To achieve this goal new concepts for the interoperability between CORBA islands have been developed and implemented. This comprises pluggable Message Transfer Protocols and Remote Operations Protocols. Both features enable ORB‘s to interwork highly efficient on top of existing telecommunication networks, although the approach is not restricted to telecommunication networks. Selected results of the project have been brought into the OMG standardization process.

Integrating the Unreliable Multicast Inter-ORB Protocol in MJACO
This paper presents our experience in implementing OMG Unreliable Multicast Inter-ORB Protocol specifications into an ORB. An integration model is proposed to allow the coexistence of two different protocol stacks (IIOP/TCP/IP and MIOP/UDP/IP multicast) making possible a large spectrum of middleware support for distributed objects communication. That integration model is discussed in this paper...
متن کاملAdaptive QoS Aware Binding of Persistent Multimedia Objects
The heterogeneity of distributed multimedia systems in terms of hardware, operating systems, programming languages, data formats, compression formats, available resources, and QoS requirements imposes severe problems. The purpose of the middleware platform is to provide interoperability and portability of distributed system services and applications. However, todays middleware platforms, like C...
متن کاملOCI-Based Group Communication Support in CORBA
Group communication is a useful mechanism guaranteeing consistency among replicated objects. The existing approaches do not allow transparent plug-in of group communication protocols into CORBA. They either require modification of CORBA or OS, or provide no room for incorporating group communication transport protocols into CORBA. We thus propose a generic group communication framework that all...
متن کاملPrinciples for Optimizing CORBA Internet Inter-ORB Protocol Performance
The Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) enables heterogeneous CORBA-compliant Object Request Brokers (ORBs) to interoperate over TCP/IP networks. IIOP uses the Common Data Representation (CDR) transfer syntax to map OMG Interface Definition Language (IDL) data types into a portable network format. Due to the excessive marshaling/demarshaling overhead, data copying, and high-levels of function ca...
متن کاملExploiting the Internet Inter-ORB Protocol Interface to Provide CORBA with Fault Tolerance
The Eternal system is a CORBA 2.0-compliant system that provides, in addition to the location transparency and the interoperability inherent in the CORBA standard, support for replicated objects and thus fault tolerance. Eternal exploits the Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) interface to ‘‘attach’’ itself transparently to objects operating over a commercial CORBA Object Request Broker (ORB). T...
